Purdue to thank West Lafayette staff and faculty with $750 appreciation award

Purdue President Mitch Daniels announced Wednesday (Nov. 25) that more than 15,000 faculty, staff and graduate student employees will receive a one-time appreciation award in December in celebration of the conclusion of the fall semester and the efforts undertaken to achieve that milestone during an extraordinary year. When cancer patients ask about the drug that may save their lives, they don’t expect to hear about zebrafish or fruit flies. Yet this is precisely where the life-saving treatments coming out of the Purdue University Center for Cancer Research begin.

Seven Purdue professors named AAAS fellows

Seven Purdue University professors have been elected to the distinction of fellow from the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the world’s largest general scientific society. The professors are being honored for their efforts toward advancing science applications that are deemed scientifically or socially distinguished.

Purdue junior receives One Brick Higher Award

Hayden White’s clear thinking and quick action as a pool lifeguard in his hometown of Carmel saved a life this summer. For his efforts, the Purdue junior in the College of Health and Human Sciences was honored Friday (Nov. 20) with the One Brick Higher Award. The award came during one of his classes. President Mitch Daniels gave the honor in a video presentation.

Convos pivots to new forms of live performance

Due to the cancellation of university-sponsored on-campus events under the guidelines of Protect Purdue, the Purdue Convocations team has had to adapt to new forms of live performance, illuminating discourse and learning experiences. One such performance is Manual Cinema’s “Christmas Carol,” a world-premiere online event.
